For most of my life, if I eat an apple, I have reached for a red delicious apple. It is in season year round so it has been an easy choice. Recently at WalMart, one of the food vendors shared Ambrosia Apples. That was the first time I tried one. I hadn't even heard of them before. They were so delicious. Ever since then, I have purchases the juicy, sweet apple.
The Ambrosia Apple is relatively new since it was created in the early 1990s by the Mennell Family in British Columbia. Since this a mid-season fruit, it ripens late September or early October. To extend the life of the fruit, Ambrosia Apples are put to sleep by storing them in a controlled environment which lowers the temperature and lowers the oxygen levels. Doing so allows the fruit to stay harvest fresh for six months or more.
This would be a great apple to add to any fruit salad. The apples should be stored in the refrigerator to stay fresher longer. And since apples are a great source of health benefits, adding this delicious apple to your diet would be a wonderful way to get some health benefits while enjoying a juicy, sweet apple. Maybe even help with the sweet tooth.
Have you tried the Ambrosia Apple? What is your favorite apple? Have a HOPtastic day!!
