How do you save money on your groceries?
Mar. 03, 2015
Today, I had the fortune of presenting to a fabulous, local group of MOPS. I enjoy sharing my passion for being frugal and maybe inspiring someone else to make a step towards being frugal. So today I thought I would share how I save money on my groceries. I have found that you have to do what works for you. So these may help you, you may already be doing them, or maybe you will even find inspiration to find some new ways to save money on your groceries.
First, I price match my groceries. WalMart, Target, Big Lots, and Family Dollar will price/ad match advertised prices. So instead of going to several stores to get the lowest advertised sale price, you can go to these stores and they will lower their price to the lower advertised sale price.
Secondly, I coupon. I use online coupons as well as coupons from the Sunday paper. I purchase extra Sunday papers at the Dollar Tree store. Between, online coupons and Sunday paper coupons, I save a lot of money on my groceries.
Layering sales with coupons is another way to maximize my grocery savings. When an item is on sale, hopefully you have a coupon that you can use as well. And if you have purchased a few extra Sunday newspapers, then you can stock up on the item and buy several of the items on sale with the coupons. And next week when it is not on sale and you don't have any coupons, you have the item already at a great price.
And lastly, I plan my meals to coordinate with sales. If bananas are on sale, I purchase extra and make banana bread for my family to enjoy. Or if chicken breasts are on sale, then most likely we will have chicken for dinner that week.
Using coupons and price matching my groceries with lower sales prices helps me save 10-15% a month on my groceries. With groceries typically being the second largest expense in your family's budget, this can be a significant savings. And with groceries continuing to increase in price or getting smaller to keep the cost the same, consumers have to be savy shoppers and save where they can.
Do you price match your groceries? Do you coupon? Have a HOPtastic day!!
